The Intelligence Group has assisted clients in numerous competitive intelligence matters, from monitoring of industry trends and competitors to investigations regarding operations, capabilities and new initiatives.
In one such matter, we conducted in-depth research and field investigation regarding the product life cycle practices of various manufactured goods competitors. With the re-use and recycling of product cartridges being leveraged by competitors claiming “green” practices as a marketing strategy, our client sought to vet the actual operating practices in the marketplace. The Intelligence Group determined very inconsistent practices existed in the industry as a whole, and even within various competitors’ own operations.
In another matter, we assisted an industry business association in opposing proposed legislation regarding Right-to-Know disclosures. By obtaining public records regarding chemical usage under the Right-to-Know statute, we were successful in reverse-engineering various manufacturing processes from public data. Estimates of raw material usage, manufacturing throughput, capacities, and waste streams were successfully made.
