Security Advisories
Travel and Business Operations
To our clients and friends:

In response to the numerous inquiries we have received regarding the tragic events of September 11th, we have prepared a brief outline of tips that answer many of your frequently asked questions regarding personal security and business concerns:

Travel

The risk scenarios for which our nation's air travel security measures have been designed have obviously changed. Stop-gap measures implemented in the past week by the FAA will be supplemented and/or replaced by additional measures in the coming weeks and months. Business travelers should consider the following over the near term:

  • Limit air travel to only necessary trips.
  • Anticipate service delays due to cancelled flights, new security measures and an increased level of scrutiny. Be patient and prepared to furnish all travel documentation.
  • Review all information regarding hazards and risk for your specific destinations, as many profiles have changed - particularly in the case of international travel.

More changes are necessary and anticipated. We will continue to monitor these proposed measures, evaluate them accordingly, and keep you apprised.

Business Operations

The risk scenarios for corporate business operations have changed to reflect an increased risk for personal safety and business interruption. Depending upon the course of political events in the coming days, these risks could further increase. Corporate officers and business operators should consider the following:

  • Review existing physical and information security procedures for adequacy, with special focus paid to visitor and employee access, receipt of packages and off-hours operations. Information system vulnerabilities should be assessed.
  • Re-evaluate the risk profile of business and product lines. Pre-existing risk may be magnified in the case of controversial products and services.
  • Review and update crisis management plans, including evacuation plans, business interruption procedures, and disaster recovery.
  • Ensure that necessary documentation and records are maintained in duplicate off-site, and that appropriate contingency measures are in place for IT, telecommunications, and other critical business functions.

We hope that you find this information useful in addressing the specific risk concerns of your workplace. Please contact us with any specific questions or concerns you may have regarding these most difficult issues.
