Protection of Intellectual Property

The loss of intellectual property is one of the most significant security issues facing corporations today.  Proprietary technology, business plans, customer lists and financial information are just some examples of a company’s intellectual property that can easily fall into the hands of competitors, former/present employees, and others with ill intent.  IP is also notoriously difficult to secure, due to its portability and ease of transfer.  Couple this with the fact that close to 70% of corporate IP theft occurs from within an organization, and the significance of this threat is easily understood.

The Intelligence Group has significant experience investigating loss and securing IP for corporations.  We have worked on matters including the following:

  • External break-ins to information systems
  • Internal theft of proprietary technology by employees
  • Employee theft of customer lists and related information prior to the start-up of competing businesses
  • Leaking of non-public financial data and other information to internet message boards
  • Infiltration by competitors seeking intelligence
  • Recruitment of employees by competitors

In these and other matters, we have helped our clients pursue relief for their losses utilizing sophisticated investigative techniques and state-of-the-art technology.  We have participated in criminal prosecutions with law enforcement, and supported civil litigation claims and other forms of relief in concert with our clients.  And, most importantly, we have re-invested these lessons in our client’s business operations to strengthen their security and make them less vulnerable.
